Blackhawks girls earn 59-52 win vs. North Catholic
A few girls teams with championship aspirations clashed Monday night in non-section matchups.
WPIAL Class 6A No. 4ranked Bethel Park (20-2) outlasted North Catholic, the top-ranked squad in 4A, 5952. The Blackhawks’ Olivia Westphal netted 14 points in the second quarter en route to a game-high 28. The Trojanettes (19-3) got 15 points from Dani Short.

Class 6A No. 2 North Allegheny used a 28-15 second-half advantage to pull through for a 57-42 victory against Class 5A No. 2 Oakland Catholic (19-3) in nonsection play. Akron recruit Rachel Martindale paced the Tigers (21-1) with 17 points.
Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski picked up her 650th career win by leading the Class 3A No. 1 Lancers past 4A No. 3 Blackhawk, 64-59. Neshannock’s Bella Burrelli racked up a game-high 29 points to go with 15 rebounds. Grybowski is in her ninth season at Neshannock and has coached 39 seasons overall.
A game-high 30 points from Gillian Piccolino helped Keystone Oaks (13-8) pull away from Class 3A No. 2 Carlynton (18-4) for a 61-47 non-section triumph.
Top boys games
Class 5A No. 4 Woodland Hills (17-5) shot 52 percent from the field (28 of 54) to pick up a 79-68 nonsection win against Plum (517) at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Keandre Bowles led the Wolverines with 28 points. Plum’s Spencer Wilson had 21 points and 16 rebounds.
Pine-Richland, ranked No. 1 in 6A, scored 20 or more points in every quarter while rolling past 2A No. 3 Sewickley Academy, 93-60, in the Hoops for a Cure tournament at Pine-Richland. Dan Petcash had 25 points for the Rams (20-2), while the Panthers (12-8) got a game-high 30 from Isiah Warfield.
Milestones
Maura Huwalt netted 19 points, including the 1,000th of her career, for South Park (16-6) in its 5542 non-section triumph against Southmoreland (175).
Keeley Brockington set a Propel Andrew Street (714) school record with 29 points in a 53-9 non-section win at Propel Braddock Hills.
