WINTER’S LAST FULL MOON
Bella Schreiner, 12, left, lights candles as her mother, Dayvanna Schreiner, observes Bella’s first time as Atabey in a Taino Full Moon Ceremony on Sunday at the O.W.L. Natural Native Reserve’s Caney House in Hazelwood. The ceremony marks the last full moon for the winter season and honors the monthly cycles of the Earth, women, and Atabey, or the cosmic matriarch in the tradition of the historically Caribbean indigenous people.
