No. 21 Seminoles stifle Pitt women

The No. 21 Florida State women held Pitt to 30.5 percent shooting Sunday in a 7846 Panthers loss. It was Pitt coach Lance White’s first game in Tallashass­ee after 15 seasons as a Seminoles (21-5, 9-4 ACC) assistant.

Florida State led 8-0, gave up two Pitt baskets, then used a 9-0 spurt to take control early. Pitt trailed 40-21 at half and came no closer than 20 after another Seminoles run to start the second half.

Danielle Garven led Pitt (10-17, 1-12) with 14 points. Pitt was outrebound­ed, 4429, and falls to to 0-6 all-time against Florida State.

Duquesne 75, Rhode Island 58: Kadri-Ann Lass, Libby Bazelak and Julijana Vojinovic combined for 46 points in Duquesne’s 75-58 win at Rhode Island. Lass scored a game-high 19 on 8of-10 shooting, her best rate of the year, and Bazelak added a career-high 15 for the Dukes (13-12, 7-5 Atlantic 10). Nicole Jorgensen scored 13 to lead the Rams (7-17, 2-10). The Dukes forced a season-high 25 turnovers, turning those mistakes into 29 points.

Minnesota 97, Penn State 67: The Lady Lions against the Golden Gophers, losing 97-67 in Minneapoli­s. Penn State senior Teniya Page had 14 points, her 42nd double-figure effort in a row. Penn State (10-15, 3-11 Big Ten) opened a 9-2 lead but Minnesota (19-7, 8-7) answered with a 23-4 run. The Gophers shot 54 percent on the day. Jaida TravascioG­reen hit two 3s late in the first but the Gophers shot 9of-10 to close the half with a 59-34 lead that held up.
