History Uncorked: Destination Moon
#OutOfThisWorld: The Sen. John Heinz History Center was the place to be SEEN on Friday night as more than 1,500 partygoers flocked to the Strip District for one of the biggest dance parties of the year. Wait, dancing at a history museum? That may seem counterintuitive, but this isn’t your average museum or your average party. And with this year’s “Destination Moon” exhibit on display about the first men who landed on the moon, it was sure to be one of the most talked about events of the year. The five floors of this museum were transformed into interactive spaces to eat, drink and roam about. But be warned: You may actually learn something. “This is the real stuff,” said CEO of the Heinz History Center, Andy Masich. “Buzz Aldrin’s helmet still has moon dust on it.” Added board member Stan Geier, with wife Ruth, “The History Center is a treasure of Pittsburgh and we should be proud of this place and all the riches found here.” As the VIP hour wound down, the party heated up as guests poured into the museum, embracing the outer space theme in glittery dresses, sparkly shoes, galactic-inspired suits and otherworldy makeup including standouts like Syma Hajian, Cameron Corcoran, Rachel Carlson, Nicole Swartz, and Dan Schapira. Guests were over the moon for the tarot reader, spiked “moonjuice,” and photobooth before joining other earthlings for the legendary fifth-floor dance party. The event raised $100,000 for the exhibits and educational programs.
