Hannity may be compelled to testify before Congress

- By Ben Peters

WASHINGTON — Fox News host Sean Hannity appeared to insert himself into the congressional investigation of President Donald Trump in an interview with Mr. Trump aired Thursday night, leading to speculation that he could be subpoenaed.

Mr. Hannity asserted to the president that Michael Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former attorney who testified in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday, gave him information that conflicts with Mr. Cohen’s testimony.

Mr. Cohen explained to the committee that Mr. Trump directed him to make illegal hush money payments to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels.

On Thursday Mr. Hannity told Mr. Trump, “I can tell you personally, he said to me at least a dozen times, that he made the decision on the payments and he didn’t tell you,” Mr. Hannity told Mr. Trump.

Mr. Hannity’s comment caught the attention of Democratic Rep. David Cicilline, of Rhode Island.

“I look forward to [Hannity’s] testimony,” Mr. Cicilline said in a tweet.

National security lawyer Bradley P. Moss had a similar thought.

“Hannity just made himself a witness in a congressional inquiry and the [Southern District of New York] probe,” Mr. Moss said. The president declared in a succession of tweets Friday that Mr. Cohen is “totally discredited” and he criticized Democrats for pursuing investigative inquiries about his finances.

Mr. Cohen is scheduled to begin serving a threeyear prison sentence in May.
