Baltimore lets RB Collins go after car crash

The Baltimore Ravens released running back Alex Collins, who led the team in rushing two years ago.

Collins was arrested Friday following a car crash near the team training facility. The specific charges were not immediatel­y released by police.

The team said, “We have spoken to the police and are aware of the situation.”

Collins led Baltimore with 973 yards rushing in 2017 and scored eight touchdowns in 2018 before a foot injury ended his season in late November. The 24-yearold Collins was a restricted free agent before his release. If not claimed on waivers, he becomes a free agent.

College hockey

The Robert Morris (14-13-6, 12-4-3 CHA) women got goals by Amber Renee, Anjelica Diffendal, Lexi Templeman, Natalie Marcuzzi and Kirsten Welsh in a balanced and overwhelmi­ng scoring night in the 5-0 win against Syracuse (10-20-3, 10-72). Colonials goalie Arielle DeSmet stopped 25 shots for the shutout.

• The Robert Morris men (11-20-2, 10-152 AHA) scored four goals in the third-period to send the game against Mercyhurst (13-17-5, 11-12-4) to overtime. Colonials forward Alex Tonge scored three times, including the winner in the 5-4 victory.

Tennis

Second-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany advanced to the Mexico Open in Acapulco, beating Britain’s Cameron Norrie, 7-6 (0), 6-3, at The Princess Mundo Imperial. Earlier, China’s Wang Yafan reached her first WTA Tour final, rallying to beat third-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

• Third-seed Guido Pella of Argentina advanced to the Brazil Open semifinals in Sao Palo, beating compatriot Marco Trungellit­i, 6-0, 6-3. Pella will face Serbia’s Laslo Djere, a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 winner against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Soccer

The Pittsburgh Riverhound­s SC defeated the University of Akron, 1-0, in a matinee matchup at Highmark Stadium. The Hounds struck first, with trialist Nazeem Bartman finding the back of the net in the 45th minute. Bartman’s goal would prove to be enough.
