Louisville tops Pitt, secures share of ACC title
Louisville used its stout defense to secure at least a share of the ACC title for the second consecutive season with a 67-40 victory against the Pitt Panthers Sunday at Petersen Events Center.
Asia Durr scored 17 points for No. 3 Louisville (27-2, 14-2), which earned its fourth victory in a row.
Pitt (11-19, 2-14) got 11 points from senior guard Cassidy Walsh, who was 3 of 5 from 3-point range. The Panthers will face Duke in the first round of the conference tournament Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C.
Golf
Keith Mitchell made a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win The Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., for his first PGA Tour victory. Mitchell closed with a 3-under 67 to finish at 9-under 271 at PGA National, a stroke ahead of Brooks Koepka and Rickie Fowler.
• Sung Hyun Park birdied five or her first seven holes, and had nine overall, in a final-round 64 to win the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.
• Mark O’Meara seized control with five birdies on the front nine and closed with a 7-under 66 for a four-shot victory in the PGA Tour Champions Cologuard Classic in Tuc- son, Ariz.
• American golfer Kurt Kitayama won his second European Tour title by a single shot in the Oman Open in Muscat, Oman.
Pro football
Nick Foles, the only Eagles quarterback to win a Super Bowl, is bound for Jacksonville when NFL free agency opens March 13, according to NFL sources. A source called Foles, 30, “a perfect fit” for the Jaguars. Jacksonville came very close to facing the Eagles in Super Bowl LII, blowing a 20-10 fourth-quarter lead against the Patriots in the AFC championship game.
Pro basketball
Pau Gasol signed with the NBA-leading Milwaukee Bucks, two days after the 38-year-old Spanish center reached a buyout agreement with San Antonio.
Soccer
Riverhounds SC got goals from Steevan Dos Santos and Nazeem Bartman and defeated Lansing Ignite FC, 2-0, in an exhibition at Highmark Stadium. Kyle Morton recorded the shutout in goal.
Tennis
Third-seed Guido Pella of Argentina claimed his first pro title at the Brazil Open in Sao Paulo. Pella, 28, beat Chile’s Christian Garin, 7-5, 6-3, in an all-South American final.
