SPRING REPORT

- — Nubyjas Wilborn

BRADENTON, Fla. — The Detroit Tigers, led by former Pirate Josh Harrison, scored four runs (three earned) off Chris Archer in three innings Saturday. Harrison scored twice and drove in one in a three-run second inning.

“I’m really focusing on when is the right time to use my curveball or the right time to use my changeup to the righties,” Archer said. “Overall I’m getting a good feel of it. I’m getting good feedback from the catcher and from the batters. Today, I threw a couple of curveballs in situations where I really challenged myself and I got some feedback that told me it wasn’t the right time to throw it. That’s what spring training is for.”

Archer will have at least two more starts before he pitches the home opener April 1. “I think for the most part my location was good. I did miss my spot a few times, but again it’s spring training,” Archer said. “I’m healthy. My stuff is good.”

Archer threw five scoreless innings combined in his two previous spring starts.

Here’s what you need to know in three important areas from the game:

On the mound

Jake Barrett pitched a scoreless inning in his Pirates spring debut. Barrett gave up two hits and struck out one.

At the plate.

Brian Reynolds tallied two RBIs on a single in the fifth inning. Reynolds got the start in right field. Will Craig walked three times in three at-bats.

In the field

Jose Osuna made two plays where he dove into the netting down the first base foul line.
