Mask making preview party

#TheBigReveal: The Pittsburgh Public Theater is trying on a new look for its upcoming gala: A Masked Affair on May 17 at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh hotel, Downtown. To help guests get inspired, gala co-chair Christina Cochran opened her private artist studio in the Strip District and gathered all the glitter, glue guns and feathers she could find so partygoers could make their own masks for the new twist on the PPT’s signature event.
“We wanted to refresh the theme of our annual gala and give it a sexy update,” said Lou Castelli, managing director of the PPT. “Masks are theatrical and whimsical, and people can look forward to this annual event and plan for their party masks.”
While the theme will change, wearing a mask will be a part of the fun every year. Ms. Cochran wanted to support the theater’s new initiative and the new creative director, Marya Sea Kaminski. “I love what she is doing with the productions and the new energy that she is infusing into this art form. We wanted to support her because we really do believe that theater is for everyone,” she said.
Ms. Kaminski echoed that sentiment. “I don’t believe in art for art’s sake. I believe that art is a form of connection. What is a true public theater and how can we share experiences together? That is what our theater aims to do and events like this just bring people together to share in the fun of being creative.”
