Spirits & Tales

-

The place to be #SEEN: Inside the new — and super chic! — Oaklander Hotel Autograph Collection located at 5130 Bigelow Blvd., Oakland.

You’ve never #SEEN Oakland like this before. Perched on the 10th floor of this new boutique hotel, Spirits & Tales overlooks the iconic Cathedral of Learning and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall as well as the bustling boulevard. I’ve never been able to appreciate the beautiful architecture that sits atop some of the buildings in this part of the city, and those dramatic views give this new hotspot its edge. Indulge in craft cocktails, including a design-your-own martini before sitting out on the patio at sunset. Take in the room from the casual bar before dinner and enjoy libations with friends.

As for the menu? Executive chef — and rising culinary star— Jessica Lewis blew me away with her delectable and playful menu elevating the classic French brasserie with shareable dishes like her vegan cashew cheese radish toast with citrus-thyme jam, fennel fronds and horseradish; gnocchi in beurre noisette with oyster mushroom, fennel, kale and black pepper ricotta; pan-seared duck breast with brown butter carrot puree, crispy lentils, chermoula and walnut pistou and more. Do yourselves a favor and reserve a table for your next night out. You won’t be disappointed.
