Woods to face top rookie in Dell Match Play
Tiger Woods will open the Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas, against the PGA Tour rookie of the year.
Woods is back in the Match Play for the first time since 2013, when it was played in Arizona and he was eliminated in the opening round. Now it is group play, assuring him of three matches. The winner of the 16 groups advance to the knockout stage.
First up for Woods on Wednesday is Aaron Wise, an NCAA champion from Oregon who won the AT&T Byron Nelson last year. Also in the group are Patrick Cantlay and Brandt Snedeker.
Dustin Johnson is the No. 1 seed and has Hideki Matsuyama, Branden Grace and Chez Reavie.
Jason Day is in the allmajor champion group with Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stenson and Jim Furyk.

Roger Federer finished with a flurry of aces and advanced to the fourth round of the Miami Open in Miami Gardens, Fla., by beating Filip Krajinovic, 7-5, 6-3. Federer finished with 14 aces. … Indian Wells champion Bianca Andreescu retired from her fourth-round match with a right shoulder injury while trailing Anett Kontaveit, 6-1, 2-0. … Threetime Miami champion Venus Williams lost to No. 2-seeded Simona Halep, 6-3, 6-3.
College football
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s medical examiner plans further tests to determine the cause of Georgia Tech defensive lineman Brandon Adams’ death. Adams, 21, died Saturday.
• Georgia senior wide receiver Tyler Simmons and freshman defensive back Tyrique Stevenson are facing misdemeanor charges following a bar fight in Athens, Ga.
• Missouri submitted a 64-page brief to the NCAA, argued that the penalties handed down Jan. 31 in the case of a rogue former tutor are contrary to NCAA precedent, were not supported or appropriate given the nature of the allegations and could have a chilling effect on future NCAA enforcement. The committee on infractions has 30 days to respond to the appeal.

Portugal drew with Serbia, 1-1, in qualifying for the 2020 European Championship in Lisbon, Portugal, and lost the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, who pulled a muscle in his right leg just before halftime.
• In other qualifying matches, England beat Montenegro, 5-1, away to follow up its 5-0 thrashing of the Czech Republic in Group A, marking the first time England has scored five or more goals in successive games since 1984. … After opening Group B with a 4-1 win against Moldova, France had a more impressive 4-0 win against Iceland with Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann scoring second-half goals.

NASCAR tweaked its qualifying procedures to avoid a repeat of the session two weeks ago in which all 12 drivers in the final round failed to log an official lap. Beginning Friday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, NASCAR said all cars must post a lap time or start at the rear of the field.
