Monday

Arizona P Robbie Ray strikes out six Pirates in five innings to reach 800 career strikeouts. He reaches it in his 125th career game, making him the second-fastest left-hander to reach the milestone behind Frank Tanana (120).

Tuesday

As amazing as Boston P Chris Sale striking out 17 batters vs. Colorado is the fact that the Rockies strike out 24 times overall and still win the game in 11 innings (5-4). The Red Sox are only the third team in history to lose a game in which its starting pitcher has 17-plus Ks.

Wednesday

P Edwin Jackson becomes the first player in MLB history to play for 14 teams when he starts for Toronto vs. San Francisco. Not that it was easy says Jackson: “Some of those teams have had situations that would probably make people want to go home and quit and cry.”

Thursday

The Pirates don’t win in San Diego, but they do play foil to history. When Adam Frazier singles in the third inning, it ensures that the Padres will play a record 8,020th game since their inception without throwing a no-hitter. The previous record before a team threw its first no-hitter was 8,019 set by the Mets before Johan Santana ended it June 1, 2012.

Astros reliever Ryan Pressly registers an MLB-record 39th consecutiv­e scoreless appearance, pitching a scoreless eighth, in a 3-1 win vs. the Red Sox.
