Where is the man?
I was intrigued by the very cogent letter on May 12, “No One Can Impose Morality or Beliefs.”
The letter writer was absolutely right in protesting that all these poor single mothers are being slammed for having to depend on public assistance for the support of their unwanted babies. Why, I ask, should they even have need for public assistance? I, too, don’t condone this happening, but there is another figure in this equation that has not been mentioned in other letters of this type.
Where is the man? These are not virgin births. I consider them “hit-and-run cowards” who shun any responsibility whatsoever, and leave the women to her own devices; how heroic is that? As long as the man satisfies his “needs” he’ll say, “Thank you ma’am, it’s been nice knowing you.”
And what about contraception? Where is the man?
And what about these selfrighteous people always writing letters criticizing the mother. Where is the man? Doesn’t he have to share in that responsibility? Why is it always the woman? Where is the man?
I believe if all these “hitand-run cowards” would own up to their responsibilities, there would be less drag on the state welfare department.
And where is it written that only the woman is responsible for child birth? I repeat, there are no virgin births — where is the man?
