Council’s OK needed for data-sharing pacts
Pittsburgh now can enter agreements to receive and share data from tech companies — but with the stipulation that council must approve all agreements.
Council passed the measure unanimously Monday with an amendment added by Councilwoman Deb Gross, who expressed concern over the proposal last week. Companies from which the city is seeking data — with the goal of learning how to best use public resources — include Uber, Ford and the Googleowned navigation mobile app Waze, a city official said last week. The original proposal did not call for council’s approval. All data agreements are subject to the city’s 2014 open data policies.
