A splash at The Bash: Zachary Quinto is coming to City Theatre party
Zachary Quinto returns to his Pittsburgh roots as the special guest of City Theatre Sept. 7 for The Bash, the South Side company’s reimagined block-party fundraiser.
The Green Tree native — Mr. Spock in the “Star Trek” film universe — was seen on Broadway most recently in “The Boys in the Band.” The graduate of Central Catholic High and Carnegie Mellon University will join the playwrights of City Theatre’s coming 45th season, including Theresa Rebeck (“Seminar”) at a VIP reception to inaugurate the new Philip Chosky Production Center, across the street from the theater at 1300 Bingham St. Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. reception are $250, and include a beer/wine/champagne toast, food tickets, drinks and a swag bag.
The ticketed block party will take place at City’s multiple venues on Bingham Street between 13th and 14th streets, and feature pop-up performances, cocktails, food trucks and an outdoor dance party hosted by 1Hood Media, with DJ QRX.
The Bash also will feature a sneak peek of the award-winning “Cambodian Rock Band,” set to open the 2019-20 season, the second first under returning artistic director Marc Masterson. The excerpt of the Lauren Yee play, commissioned by Masterson in his previous home at South Coast Rep, will be one of the pop-up performances in City’s Hamburg Studio.
In addition, City Theatre is curating a series of theatrical excursions, from Pittsburgh to London, that will be available through a new benefit auction that will go live this summer.
For general admission tickets of $100 (7:30-11:30 p.m.), guests receive two drink tickets and have access to the “Cambodian Rock Band” sneak peek and rotating Hamburg cabaret performances, caricatures stations, tasting stations and Sarris Candies desserts, along with the dance party. For $50 (9-11:30 p.m.), guests receive one drink ticket and have access to the dance party, Hamburg cabaret, caricature stations, tasting stations and dessert.
The Bash host committee is co-led by Clyde B. Jones III, past president of the City Theatre board, and Tamara Tunie. More at citytheatercompany.org.
