Kind woman gives up her rightful place in line
One of the clearances that I routinely update for work requires me to get fingerprinted.
Last month, I waited in line at a local UPS store for my fingerprints to be taken. Although the store was efficient, the fingerprinting staff was running behind schedule.
I waited in line with several other kind strangers as name after name was called to the little corner kiosk where a patient technician worked her fingerprinting machine. I resigned myself to an even longer wait, when after 45 minutes or so, an exceptional woman’s name was called.
That woman walked over toward the kind technician and asked her if she could collect my fingerprints ahead of hers. That kind woman knew I had been waiting for a very long time.
Her selfless act made my day much brighter and, though she refused my offers of a cup of coffee or some other way to thank her, I hope she reads this note.
Thank you. Your offer to let me take your place in a line today brought warmth to my soul. Truly, the small kindnesses of strangers are one of the sweetest parts of life. MICHELE LEVINE
