Ask to take your dog to work on Friday
Friday is Pet Sitters International’s Take Your Dog to Work Day, and that’s a registered trademark of the organization that started the tradition in 1999. Go to www.petsit.com/takeyourdog for tips, starting with this one: Make sure you have permission from your boss before you bring your dog to work.
Many companies and organizations have jumped on the dogs-to-work bandwagon. In advance of Friday, Rover.com, a network of pet sitters and dog walkers founded in Seattle, released its inaugural list of Best Dog-Friendly Companies.
The top 100 companies have dogs in the office all year. The No. 1 dog-friendly company is Amazon in Seattle. Employees have registered 6,000 dogs, who have access to an on-campus dog park with free treats and free poop bags.
No. 2 Procore Technologies in Carpinteria, Calif., offers dogfriendly happy hours. No. 3, Trupanion in Seattle, offers pet insurance coverage and days off for pet bereavement.
Alas, no Pittsburgh companies made the list. One Pennsylvania company came in at No. 62: Sparks, a marketing agency in Philadelphia.
Purse bash
Purses, jewelry and other luxury items will be raffled off June 23 to benefit The Humane Society of Westmoreland County and Wayward Whiskers Animal Rescue.
Tickets are $30 for the 1-4 p.m. event at Ferrante’s Lakeview, 6153 Lincoln Highway, Greensburg (15601). A ticket gets you a mimosa luncheon and a chance to win purses and other items from Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Coach. Call the Humane Society at 724-837-3779 to order tickets or pick them up at the shelter at Route 119 North, Greensburg.
Recycled fashions
The Rescued & Recycled fashion show at Animal Friends isn’t until Aug. 3, but the $40 tickets are on sale now.
“Join us on the cat walk” and “get your paws ... on some highend, pre-owned designer bags and accessories at a fraction of the retail price,” according to the news release from the Ohio Township shelter. The admission ticket covers the fashion show, raffles, auctions, brunch and mimosas. Go to ThinkingOutsideTheCage.org/ RR to register.
