What happened to one of Mister Rogers’ neighbors?
Q: I watched the movie “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” I wonder why the ASL interpreter was not shown in the movie about Mr. Rogers. Do you know why? Where is Maggie Stewart now?
— ARLENE VIA
EMAIL Rob: Presumably because the movie was a biography of Fred Rogers. The appropriate place for updates on the “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” cast would have been the retrospective that aired on PBS last year, but they went a different direction with that.
I reached out to Maggie Stewart who offered this response: “Those of you who were fans of ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ will probably remember that Fred often would ask Maggie Stewart’ (Mayor Maggie) to teach him some ASL (American Sign Language). Now, as then, Maggie is a professional certified interpreter for those in the deaf community who need that service.”
Q: Last time I checked on KDKA’s site, Celina Pompeani didn’t have a bio. I thought she was hired as a freelance traffic reporter, but she’s been a fixture on the morning show for a while now. Is she a full-time KDKA employee without a bio, or just an incredibly stable freelancer?
— DAVE, GREENSBURG Rob: She remains a freelancer, but she does have a bio now at KDKA.com.
However, former freelance meteorologist Ray Petelin is now a full-time KDKA-TV staff member.
Q: I am aware of the host of “The Booze Traveler” (Travel Channel), Jack Maxwell’s, battle with cancer and the resulting hiatus from the program for over a year now.
Looking online for any news, the available information has been generic and of no use. Can you provide any factual update as to his condition and potential revival of the series?
Jack came across as a very likable person, so of course his personal welfare is of the utmost concern. A resumption of the series would be wonderful but secondary in importance.
— LOU, WOODSTOCK,
GA. Rob: Travel Channel canceled “Booze Traveler,” so it won’t be back.
I reached out to Maxwell on Twitter and he responded, “I’m feeling good, thanks. Strong. Getting better every day.”
On Twitter Maxwell teases a new marijuanathemed series, “The High Road With Jack Maxwell,” but provided no other details, like where/when the series might be televised.
Q: Why aren’t “CSI: New York” reruns ever on TV?
— MARY, AVALON Rob: I’m guessing because the reruns did not generate great ratings. Weirdly, the episodes are not on streaming service CBS All Access (due to prior licensing agreements).
Q: Will “Ray Donovan” be back on Showtime, or was season six the last series? I was out of touch watching this series but suddenly discovered it was still going strong on Showtime. It’s one of my all-time favorites, so I hope it is coming back.
— JOANNE, CRANBERRY Rob: Yes, Showtime renewed “Ray Donovan,” executive produced by Pittsburgh native David Hollander, for a seventh season.
