Staff at PNC Park goes beyond duty

On Wednesday, June 19, I attended the Pirates game against the Detroit Tigers at PNC Park. Included in my party was my sister, who relies on a wheeled walker when in crowds.

As we were waiting for the rest of our family to join us, we were approached by a member of the guest services staff who offered us a wheelchair to take my sister to our seats. I was not aware of this service, and we immediately took him up on his offer. One member of the staff, Vanessa, appeared with the wheelchair and took us to our section.

She also informed us that if we told our usher after the game was over, a wheelchair could be used to exit the park as well.

Because I have never needed this service before, I was totally unaware that is was available. The lengths to which the staff went to help us was beyond our expectations.

We just want to acknowledge PNC Park for making this experience a very pleasant one for all of us.

To top it off, it was my birthday, and we brought home a win.

Good friend fills role of good Samaritan

This random act took place during the bitter polar vortex in January.

My best friend, Sue, who lives in Ross, was on her way home after shopping at the West View Giant Eagle when she saw an elderly gentleman slip and fall on the side of the road.

She watched as several cars in front of her drove past as he lay there. She pulled over and rendered assistance, asking if he was OK. He assured her that he was. She then asked where he was going, and he said Giant Eagle. She helped him into her car, took him to the store and waited until he was finished shopping.

The man assured her he was fine and thanked her many times over.

She wanted no recognition for her deed, but the story deserves to be told.

Newspaper deliverer takes extra steps

Thanks to Rick Gaetano. It is a delight to open my door in the morning to find that he has taken the time to put my Pittsburgh Post- Gazette and The New York Times on my front porch.

It obviously is something he does not have to do on Tuesdays and Saturdays when the Post- Gazette is not delivered. And when someone else delivers the Times, it is a game of hideandseek to find it. I found my May 25 edition of the Times in the forsythia bushes.

So it is with extreme gratitude that I thank Rick for his kindness and for the extra steps to put my papers on the front porch.

The Post- Gazette is fortunate to have him.
