A perfect home in lake country

-

I read with great interest the July 7 article “Escape to Lake Country” by Bob Batz. I grew up in the area he writes about, 15 minutes from Pymatuning Lake and all the other sites mentioned. I lived around Pittsburgh throughout my young adult years, lastly in Cranberry Township. But Cranberry was getting too congested for me, our home was too big for us and most of our family was north.

I still owned my family home up north and kept it as a second home for many years. My husband and I both retired a couple of years ago. We had to make a decision on keeping both homes. He said to me one day, “Where do you want to be as you grow older?” I found myself saying, “I want to go home.” Long story short, we moved back to the house last October, which is halfway between Greenville and Jamestown.

There is a lovely covered front porch here and when the breeze is right, it’s like heaven. Sometimes when I was home for a couple of days on a summer weekend, my dad used to say on Friday night, “Well here come all the Pittsburghers for the weekend, all going to the lakes.” Sunday night it was, “Well, there they head home.”

Even though I became a quasi- Pittsburgher, I don’t think I ever really wanted to move away from this area. However, I had to experience the rest of the world, which I did.

We are still downsizing and transitioning back to country living. Winter can be rough here but spring, summer and fall are delightful ( except for all the rain this season).

Thank you to Mr. Batz for appreciating the area and writing such a nice article. SUZANNE McDOWELL HIVELY Greenville
