ALL WEEKEND Kinetic’s ‘ Scapino’

The main character is an archetypal schemer whose name roughly translates to “escape artist” — He tends to run from trouble he often causes himself. Inspired by Moliere’s classic comedy “Scapin,” Broadway veteran Jeffrey Binder has re- imagined the story as “Scapino,” with sleazy lawyers, mafia dons and romance in the sun … specifical­ly, Naples ( Florida).

With a cast including Binder and David Whalen, Kinetic Theatre’s Andrew Paul directs “Scapino” at the Henry Heymann Theatre, Stephen Foster Memorial, Oakland ( where there’s a new elevator to take patrons to the downstairs stage).

FRIDAY- SUNDAY CLO takes flight

Tony Award- nominee Jenn Colella will go from a real- life pioneer pilot in “Come From Away” to a flying boy who won’t grow up in PIttsburgh CLO’s “Peter Pan.”

Charles Shaughness­y (“Days of Our Lives” and “The Nanny”), who has played Henry Higgins for the CLO, co- stars as Captain Hook. Broadway veteran, Pittsburgh native and Penn State grad Lori Eve Marinacci plays Wendy Darling.

FRIDAY Summer Crawl

The Summer Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District will feature more than 20 stops with new gallery exhibition premieres, live music, food trucks, pop- up surprises and a Crawl After Dark dance party at the Trust Arts Education Center.

Wood Street Galleries opens “Mythologie­s,” work by Guillaume Marmin that finds “common language between image and sound — a synestheti­c alphabet made of rhythms, contrasts, and refined figures in motion.”

The Trust Arts Education Center presents the American Society of Media Photograph­ers’s “Burghers,” “a photograph­y project that celebrates what it means to be a citizen of this region.”

937 Liberty opens “What We Don’t Talk About,” an exhibition that asks, among other things, “Is the fact that life is finite what makes it profound?”

Rhett’s Road

Thomas Rhett, who came up through the country ranks writing singles for Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line, is among the young stars taking country further into the pop/ R& B realm.

He pulls into KeyBank Pavilion in Burgettsto­wn, touring behind fourth album, “Center Point Road,” named after a street in Tennessee that was important in his developmen­t.

“For me, Center Point Road really symbolizes what it was like to grow up in Hendersonv­ille,” he said. “First dates, first football games, first heartbreak, first kisses, success and failures.” The first single, “Look What God Gave Her,” was his 13th to top the Country Airplay chart.

He’s joined by Dustin Lynch, Russell Dickerson and Rhett Atkins at 7 p. m. Tickets are $ 63.25; ticketmast­er. com.

Nights at the opera

Pittsburgh Festival Opera’s summer company presents a one- night- only performanc­e of Strauss’ “The Love of Danae” at Winchester Thurston School in Shadyside.

“The Love of Danae” wraps the tale of King Midas of the golden touch and his pursuit of the princess Danae in that famously rich, lush music Strauss is best loved for. This pursuit bankrupts him after he crosses a rather cranky deity.

South Side Exposed

The 15th annual SouthSide Works Exposed, taking place between South 27th and South 28th streets, features the Second Shift Crafters Artist Market with more than 50 crafters, artists and artisans, plus live music, roving entertainm­ent, food and drink, and kid- friendly fun.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is back in Heinz Hall, Downtown, on Friday for the “Big Wigs,” concert featuring Mozart’s “Overture to Don Giovanni,” Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C Major, the “Bach Double” and Beethoven’s Second Symphony. It’s at 7 p. m. Tickets are $ 10 to $ 25.

On Saturday, the PSO presents Windborne’s Music of The Rolling Stones, celebratin­g the 50th Anniversar­y of the iconic albums, “Beggar’s Banquet” and “Let It Bleed.” Singer Brody Dolyniuk will be backed by the PSO and a full rock band. PNME premiere

The Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble’s opening weekend, at City Theater, South Side, features the PNME’s 310th world premiere. The program includes music by Christophe­r Cerrone, Guillaume Connesson, Bryce Dessner, Steve Bryant and Nico Muhly.

Omaha alt- rock band 311, known for such hits as “Down” and “All Mixed Up,” headline KeyBank Pavilion in Burgettsto­wn, the day after releasing its 13th album, “Voyager.

Also on the bill are Dirty Heads and the Interrupte­rs, bringing a combinatio­n of reggae, ska and punk.

Mr. Rogers, the composer

Fred Rogers composed two short one- act operas, “Windstorm in Bubble land” and “Spoon Mountain,” both of which premiered on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborho­od.”

Pittsburgh Festival Opera will stage both operas 7: 30 p. m. Saturday and 2 p. m. Sunday, and then July 20 and 25 at Winchester Thurston School in Shadyside.

“There’s more and ever widening interest in Fred Rogers’ particular brand of kindness, social responsibi­lity, morality and neighborli­ness” said Jonathan Eaton, artistic director of Pittsburgh Festival Opera. “Rogers was quite a great melodist. These works are charming and soulful and have something for listeners of all ages.”

Patton live

Actor/ comedian Patton Oswalt, who made his debut in a “Seinfeld” episode, went on to play Spencer in “The King of Queens,” voiced Remy in Pixar’s “Ratatouill­e” and appeared with Charlize Theron in “Young Adult.”

In the meantime, he was releasing comedy specials like “Talking for Clapping,” which won an Emmy and a Grammy, and his latest, “Annihilati­on” on Netflix.
