THE hot list
ALL WEEKEND Kinetic’s ‘ Scapino’
The main character is an archetypal schemer whose name roughly translates to “escape artist” — He tends to run from trouble he often causes himself. Inspired by Moliere’s classic comedy “Scapin,” Broadway veteran Jeffrey Binder has re- imagined the story as “Scapino,” with sleazy lawyers, mafia dons and romance in the sun … specifically, Naples ( Florida).
With a cast including Binder and David Whalen, Kinetic Theatre’s Andrew Paul directs “Scapino” at the Henry Heymann Theatre, Stephen Foster Memorial, Oakland ( where there’s a new elevator to take patrons to the downstairs stage).
