Economic sacrifices are not beneficial

-

The July 29 letter “Choice of Two Evils” is a good snapshot of how Donald Trump fans are sacrificing America’s economic future just to get rid of abortion. They will likely get the abortion bans they want, but they aren’t prepared for the economic sacrifices they will have to make in return — and the corporate so- called “liberal” media aren’t about to give them a clue.

Mr. Trump’s biggest- ever tax cuts for the corporate establishment are the “Make America Broke Again Act” — George W. Bush times 10. Medicare and Social Security are now dead men walking. The U. S. budget deficit will hit an all- time record high next year, bringing the national debt near $ 25 trillion and triggering another recession.

Medicare will run out of money in five years. Our massive debt forces us to make even bigger interest payments on that debt to keep our economy from cratering. That means no money left to save Medicare.

These are the inevitable results of Mr. Trump’s one “accomplishment.”

Economists schooled in which policies made America great know that fiscal responsibility means returning the corporate tax rate much closer to where it was pre-Trump.

But “Trump Christians,” like the letter writer, worship wealth. They believe CEOs and the rich are blessed by God. They now view JFK’s 70% tax rate on the rich as “socialism.” I can’t imagine them voting for Democrats who would raise corporate taxes.

If they don’t, we will have to get used to a future without Medicare and a much lower standard of living for most of us — especially all those new babies.
