Fishing report

Lake Erie ( Erie County) The walleye bite remained steady with markers at 45- 70 feet. The fish took crawler harnesses, plugs and spoons, and the bigger fish were found near the bottom. In varied water conditions, walleye were concentrated in 50- 55 feet with limits taken using the drop- and- drag technique, according to the Perch Pirate charter service. Yellow perch were spotty but good fishing was reported at about 35 feet near The Condos. Big lake trout found the coolest water at 100- 113 feet.

Pymatuning Reservoir

( Crawford County) Jimmie Edwards of Munhall, a member of the Penn State Bass Fishing Club, pulled out a heavy largemouth bass last week. Since June, he has caught and released big bigmouths at Conneaut and Lake Arthur.

Lake Wilhelm ( Mercer County) A kayak angler caught and released a largemouth in excess of 22 inches and 6 ½ pounds near shore.

Lake Arthur ( Butler County) Largemouths took soft plastics under weed beds in shady coves. Panfish preferred live minnows at nearshore brush piles.

North Park Lake ( Allegheny County) A 5- pound largemouth bass was caught.

Carnegie Lake ( Allegheny County) Pittsburgh Public Works treated the Highland Park pond with an aquatic vegetation suppressant early this month. The Let’s Go Fishing ministry continues its free kids fishing program on Saturdays.

Ohio River ( Allegheny County) Dane Baker, 7, of Canonsburg hauled in a 36inch, 20- pound flathead catfish on Aug. 5.

Allegheny River ( Allegheny County) Two 14- year- olds, Aubriee Syratton of the North Side and Max Warhold of Castle Shannon, reeled in 21- inch channel cats taken with a hot dog and peanut butter dough ball, respectively, during Venture Outdoors’ weekly Tri- Anglers program on the North Shore.

Deer Creek ( Allegheny County) In- line spinners were the hot trout baits in the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only area. Channel cats went for hot dogs, chicken liver and scored bluegill near the mouth at Harmar.
