Associations & Organizations
Master Builders’ Association named Jodi Rennie to its board. Ms. Rennie is vice president and general manager of Turner Construction Co.’s Pittsburgh office.
Justin Stockdale was appointed managing director at The Pennsylvania Resources Council.
Banking
F.N.B. Corp., parent company of First National Bank, hired Christopher Chan as director of corporate strategy.
Education
University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work said Aliya Durham is the school’s first-ever director of community engagement as well as an assistant professor of social work. In addition, she will teach graduate courses within the Community Organization and Social Action concentration. Molly Allwein was named director of professional education; and James
Huguley was named interim director, Center on Race and Social Problems. He is also an assistant professor of social work.
Health
Personal Care Medical Associates appointed Jennifer Malko, chief administrative officer.
Law
Houston Harbaugh, P.C. hired Carissa T. Howard, of counsel, and Robert D.
Shope, associate, intellectual property and business litigation practice groups. Ms. Carissa’s practice is focused
in federal court intellectual property litigation, patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, intellectual property counseling, and contract drafting. Mr. Shope assists commercial clients through a broad range of services that incorporate several of Houston Harbaugh’s practice groups. He practices regularly in the courts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Nonprofit
Roni Lucas was named executive director and Wendy Moore was appointed director of operations for Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries. Mainstay Life Services hired Lisa Svidron as associate director of employment services.
Awards and honors
The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Council on Research named
David Vorp of the University of Pittsburgh as one of eight fellows in its third Research Leader Fellowship Program cohort, selected nationwide. Mr. Vorp is associate dean for research for Pitt’s Swanson School of Engineering.
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art said Richard M. Scaife Director/ CEO Anne Kraybill was selected by the National Arts Strategies to join its chief executive program’s fifth cohort. The program unites a global cohort of executive leaders to examine leadership and enhance their abilities as change agents in organizations, communities and in the cultural field.
Destinations International said the following individuals earned their certified destination management executive designation: Brenda Hill, vice president, Destination Services, and Jennifer M. Vacek, director, Convention Sales.
The Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Law Section presented its Irvin Stander Memorial Award to Barbara E.
Holmes, a partner at Blaufeld Schiller & Holmes LLP. The award is presented to an attorney whose dedication to the administration of workers’ compensation law, and whose professionalism and regard for clients and colleagues, serves as an example to others.
Business notes
The National Science Foundation will fund collaborative research at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering and Drexel University’s College of Engineering that could transform sterilization of water on demand and on a larger scale. The project will receive $473,065, with $222,789 designated for Pitt’s team, which is led by John Keith, assistant professor of chemical and petroleum engineering.
The Project Management Institute has reviewed and approved Carlow University as a provider of project management training. One of the tracks in Carlow’s Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program is a project management concentration. Dateline Pittsburgh appears on Sundays.
