Burgettsto­wn defeats Summit Academy

Seth Phillis scored two touchdowns, kicked a 42yard field goal and added four extra points to lead Burgettsto­wn (3-0), ranked No. 2 in WPIAL Class 2A, to a 46-12 non-conference road victory against Summit Academy (0-3).

Phillis first scored by kicking the extra point after Kyle Conley’s 4-yard touchdown run. Trailing, 12-9, Phillis then scored on a 45-yard intercepti­on return and an 8yard pass from Jake Lounder that put the Blue Devils up, 22-12, at halftime.

Freedom 28, Mohawk 0: Cole Beck threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead host Freedom (4-0, 3-0) past Mohawk (0-4, 0-3) in a Three Rivers Conference battle. Beck got the scoring started for the Bulldogs with a 1yard touchdown run then had scoring passes of 65, 36 and 21 yards to three receivers. For the game, Beck completed 6 of 9 passes for 156 yards and also ran for 46 on 8 carries.

Union 48, Northgate 28: Michael Flowers scored three touchdowns and Tyler Benedict threw three touchdown passes and scored a touchdown on an intercepti­on return to lead Union (13, 1-2) to its first win of the season as they defeated Northgate (0-3, 0-2) in a Big Seven Conference matchup. The game was suspended Friday night late in the third quarter and resumed Saturday with the Scotties leading, 34-21.

Cardinal Mooney, Ohio 48, Carrick 0: Cardinal Mooney used a punishing running game to dominate Carrick (0-3) in a non-conference game. The Cougars outrushed the Raiders, 29425, and used seven running backs to control the contest. Pat Guerrieri, Michael Santis and Jeremy Thornton each scored two touchdowns for Cardinal Mooney.
