The Masked Singer: Super Sneak Peek

Nobody saw this one coming, this surreal game show with flamboyant costumes concealing the identity of celebrity singers and a set of rules so loopy that eventually you just had to give yourself over to the silliness. Season two premieres Sept. 25, but this special sneak peek gives host Nick Cannon and panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinge­r and Robin Thicke a chance to reflect on the show’s out-of-the-gate success last season.

8 p.m. on WTAE Dancing With the Stars

After a longer-than-usual hiatus, this reality competitio­n series returns for its 28th edition, with Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews as hosts and Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli as judges. Competing for the mirrorball trophy, among others, are actors James Van Der Beek (“Dawson’s Creek”) and Kate Flannery (“The Office”); singers Lauren Alaina and Mary Wilson, formerly of the Supremes; sports stars Ray Lewis and Lamar Odom; reality TV personalit­ies Hannah Brown (“The Bacheloret­te”) and Karamo Brown (“Queer Eye”); and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Bering Sea Gold

The summer gold mining season is heating up in Nome, Alaska, as this hit reality series returns for its 11th season, which sees the miners employing new strategies and deploying startling new technology as they explore new territory. Shawn Pomrenke confronts a formidable new competitor in Ken Kerr, whose 600-ton golddiggin­g behemoth dwarfs everything else on the water. Meanwhile, Vernon Adkison returns to the Bering Sea seeking redemption, but almost immediatel­y runs into trouble navigating the treacherou­s Yukon River in his dredge. WEDNESDAY

10 p.m. on FX American Horror Story: 1984 Season nine of this horror anthology — this time subtitled “1984” — shifts setting and characters to spin its chilling narrative in the style of the teenslashe­r flicks that packed global cinemas in the mid-80s. The story revolves around five Los Angeles friends who sign up to work as counselors at rustic Camp Redwood, where violence swiftly ensues. New cast additions are Matthew Morrison (“Glee”) and, in his acting debut, Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy. Returnees include Emma Roberts and John Carroll Lynch. THURSDAY

The Paley Center Salutes The Good Place

A sitcom about ethics? Currently up for multiple Emmy awards, the cerebral but sidesplitt­ing comedy series “The Good Place,” which begins its fourth and final season on Sept. 26, is celebrated in this new one-hour special, which includes highlights from seasons one-three, as well as interviews with the show’s gifted ensemble, which includes Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto and D’Arcy Carden.

Veteran journalist Dan Abrams returns as host as this suspensefu­l unscripted series launches its fourth season. Each live three-hour episode shines a light on the hot-button issue of policing in America by presenting a transparen­t look at law enforcemen­t on duty. Incorporat­ing dash cams along with fixed rig and handheld cameras, the series captures the work of a mix of urban and rural police forces on typical Friday and Saturday nights. SATURDAY

Movie: Escaping the NXIVM Cult: A Mother’s Fight to Save Her Daughter

As Amanda Carrington on ABC’s “Dynasty,” actress Catherine Oxenberg went through one over-the-top crisis after another, yet none rivaled the real-life one she endured when her daughter India became ensnared by the cult NXIVM, led by the charismati­c Keith Raniere. This 2019 TV movie chronicles Oxenberg’s (played by Andrea Roth) ordeal as she fought to free her daughter from this group.
