Edward Tillman carried 18 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns and Jonathan Opalko kicked a 54-yard field goal with 51 seconds remaining in the first half to give Central Catholic a 17-7 lead at intermission. The junior quarterback made the most of his time as he finished 7 of 9 for 106 yards and two touchdowns before being relieved by Dayne Goltz in the second quarter for Pine-Richland, which had its way with the Golden Tornado (0-4, 0-2). Luke Meckler also scored twice in the game for the Rams as he went the distance on a 63-yard punt return and a 25-yard run. Colon finished the night with only 11 carries but picked up 260 yards and two touchdowns and more than doubled his rushing total for the season. He came into the game with 45 carries for 209 yards. Canon-McMillan (0-4, 0-3) got its only score on Jon Quinque’s 1-yard plunge in the third quarter after the mercy rule had come into play.

Norwin 18, Chartiers Valley 13: Jack Salopek didn’t have to throw the ball every play to help the Knights pull out a non-conference victory, but he threw it enough. The Western Michigan recruit completed 11 of 22 passes, three for touchdowns, to lead the Knights (1-3) to their first win of the season. Salopek went deep to Sean Pavlic twice; once on a 73-yard strike to open the scoring, the second a 41-yard touchdown pass to close it out. Pavlic caught five passes for 134 yards and the two touchdowns. The Colts (2-2) finally broke through for their only offensive touchdown on Antonio Zambrano’s 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
