“The Art of Self-Defense”: After being attacked at random on the street a man enlists at a local dojo, led by a charismati­c and mysterious sensei, in an effort to learn how to defend himself. Rotten Tomatoes: 83% fresh.

IN THEATERS

“Zombieland: Double Tap”: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Bill Murray all reprise their roles in this sequel to the 2009 horror comedy “Zombieland.”

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”: Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning star in this sequel to the 2014 film, which continues to explore the relationsh­ip between the horned fairy and the soon-to-be Queen.

Battles, “Juice B Crypts”: Fourth album from the experiment­al rock band that features former Pittsburgh­ers Ian Williams (Don Caballero) and John Stanier (Helmet) includes guest appearance­s by Xenia Rubinos, Prairie WWWW, Shabazz Palaces, tUnE-yArDs and former Yes vocalist Jon Anderson.

Gucci Mane, “Woptober II”: The 15th album from the Atlanta rapper features the single “Richer Than Errybody,” featuring YoungBoy.

Foals, “Everything Not Saved Will Be

Lost Part 2”: Frontman Yannis Philippaki­s says the British indie-rock band’s follow-up to the 2019 Mercury Prize contender “is a heavier listen, the guitars are more emphasized and there’s some big riffs on it.”

Rob Halford, “Celestial”: “Metal maniacs, as we call ourselves, are just as ready for the holidays as everybody else,” notes the Judas Priest frontman, who releases this Christmas album with metal versions of holiday classics like “Deck the Halls” and “Joy to the World” along with four original songs.

(WQED): Sheila E. hosts this two-hour special that honors Dionne Warwick, Black Sabbath, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Julio Iglesias, Ashford & Simpson, Donny Hathaway, and Sam and Dave. 9 p.m. Friday.
