‘Hearts Beat Loud’ for Denis Theatre

-

The Denis Theatre will present its free Friday movie, “Hearts Beat Loud,” about a father and daughter who form an unlikely songwriting duo during the summer before she leaves for college. The 2018 indie drama stars Nick Offerman and Kiersey Clemons as well as Ted Danson, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner and Toni Collette. It was an official selection at the Sundance and SXSW film festivals last year.

It will be shown at 7 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 735 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, 15228.

Even though the event is free, donations to the Denis Theatre’s rebuilding efforts are welcome. Details: www.denistheatre.org/events/its-a-movie-night-in-mtlebanon.

‘Pretty Ugly’ display

The art exhibit “Pretty Ugly,” which runs through Nov. 2, addresses the concept of beauty and ugliness through contemporary figurative art forms influenced by art brut, outsider art and folk art. Existing outside the cultural norm of “fine art,” they open up the conversation — is it pretty, is it ugly, or is it pretty ugly? Does beauty exist on its own, or is it created by the observer under the influence of cultural and historic specifications?

It includes work by Ken Draim, Stacy Innerst, Laura Jean McLaughlin, Tom Megalis, Jay Nesbitt, Tom Sarver and David Wallace.

It’s at James Gallery 413 S. Main St., West End. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Information: 412-9229800; info@jamesgallery.net. Free admission.
