Trump resort won’t host G-7

-

President Donald Trump says he is reversing his plan to hold the next Group of Seven world leaders’ meeting at his Doral, Fla., golf resort.

Accused of using the presidency to enrich himself, Mr. Trump announced a rare backtrack on Twitter on Saturday night.

He wrote that, “based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National Doral, Miami, as the Host Site for the G-7 in 2020.” He said his administration “will begin the search for another site, including the possibility of Camp David, immediately.”

The president’s acting chief of staff, Mick Mulavey, held a news conference Thursday announcing the choice of Doral for the summit and insisting it was “far and away the best physical facility.”

Nestor hits Fla.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Nestor rushed into Georgia on Saturday as a post-tropical cyclone after the former tropical storm spawned a tornado that damaged homes and a school in central Florida but spared an area of the Florida Panhandle devastated one year ago by Hurricane Michael.

The storm made landfall on St. Vincent Island, a nature preserve just off Florida’s northern Gulf Coast in a lightly populated area of the state, the National Hurricane Center said.

Nestor is expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of rain to inland areas as it moves northeast across Georgia and then heads Sunday into the Carolinas before exiting into the Atlantic Ocean. All tropical storm and surge warnings had been canceled by Saturday.

The storm, however, spun off at least three tornadoes in Florida as it moved north through the Gulf that caused damage.

About 10,000 homes lost power Saturday, but Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said no serious injuries had been reported.

Service canceled

A Saturday service for a woman shot in her home by a Fort Worth, Texas, police officer was canceled.

The service for Atatiana Jefferson was set for Potter’s House Church in Dallas. Church representative Mara Silverio said it hadn’t been rescheduled.

The news follows a judge’s decision Friday to issue a temporary restraining order sought by Ms. Jefferson’s father, Marquis Jefferson, who wanted to gain control over his daughter’s funeral arrangements from her aunt.

SoCal back on alert

Southern California is back on fire watch this weekend amid winds and warm temperatures, with electrical company Southern California Edison warning of possible preventive power outages.

The biggest fire threat is elsewhere. The National Weather Service issued a red-flag warning for the Santa Barbara County’s South Coast and mountain regions that remains in effect through Sunday night.

Crane plan delayed
