Pittsburgh Foundation exec joins Carnegie Museums
Yvonne Maher, a highly successful fundraising executive with The Pittsburgh Foundation, is joining the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh on Dec. 1.
Ms. Maher, 48, of Point Breeze, is a native of Dungarvan, a harbor town in Waterford County on Ireland’s southern coast. For the past 13 years, she headed fundraising and donor management for The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Kevin Hiles, interim president of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, informed trustees and advisory board members of her appointment last Friday.
“Yvonne’s work with The Pittsburgh Foundation began as director of development, planned giving. She would quickly ascend to the roles of vice president and then senior vice president of development and donor services. During her tenure, the foundation more than doubled its assets, raising an average of $50 million a year,” Mr. Hiles wrote.
He also outlined Ms. Maher’s accomplishments, including creating “integrated planned giving strategies; creating and launching the Center for Philanthropy; creating the PittsburghGives.org online giving platform and launching an annual Day of Giving; and designing and launching a ThirdParty Investment Manager initiative that encourages financial managers to refer clients, which has become a national model for community foundations.”
Before joining The Pittsburgh Foundation, Ms. Maher was director of development for The Penn State University’s Beaver campus from 2002 to 2006. From 1998 through 2002, she was director of public relations and publications with Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Mass.
Ms. Maher earned her bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst University in 1993. After graduation, she became assistant director of external relations for Mercyhurst and assistant director of its Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center. She earned a master’s degree in communication studies from Edinboro University in 1996.
