Atlanta’s Collins suspended 25 games
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins has been suspended for 25 games without pay for a violation of the NBA’s Anti-Drug Program after testing positive for a growth hormone.
The NBA announced that Collins, 22, and Atlanta’s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, tested positive for Peptide-2.
Collins’ suspension began with Tuesday night’s game against San Antonio.
Despite his absence, the Hawks pulled out a 108-100 come-from-behind win over the Spurs. The Hawks got a spark from guard Trae Young who returned to the lineup and scored 29 points and had 13 assists. Young had been out for six days with a right ankle sprain.
Blazers
Forward Zach Collins underwent shoulder surgery that will sideline him for at least four months. Portland said Collins had successful surgery to repair his left labrum. A 7-footer in his third season with Portland, Collins dislocated his shoulder in an Oct. 27 game against Dallas.
Celtics
Gordon Hayward tied a career high with 39 points, making all 16 of his 2-point attempts, and the Boston Celtics won their fifth consecutive game by holding off the Cleveland Cavaliers, 119113. Hayward put in Kemba Walker’s miss with 22 seconds left to give Boston a 118113 lead. Walker stole the inbounds pass and hit a free throw to put the game away. Hayward made 17 of 20 shots, including a 3-pointer. The 6-foot-7 forward scored 16 points in the opening quarter and 22 in the first half.
