Notre Dame cruises past Robert Morris

Notre Dame used a 16-2 run over the first four minutes of the second half to go up by 32 points and breezed to an 82-57 victory against Robert Morris Saturday at Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Ind.

Josh Williams had 18 of his team-high 21 points for the Colonials in the second half, but he was hardly enough to offset the balanced Notre Dame scoring. Dane Goodwin scored 18 points to lead five Irish players in double figures. T.J. Gibbs added 15, Prentiss Hubb 13, Robby Carmondy (Mars High School) 13 and John Mooney 10.

The Irish (1-1) shot 57% from the field overall while holding the Colonials (0-2) to 34%. Notre Dame also made 22 of 25 free throws to the visitors’ 2 of 4 in the first meeting between the teams.

Penn State 91, Wagner 64: Myreon Jones scored 14 points and Penn State pulled away from visiting Wagner. Lamar Stevens added 13 points, Izaiah Brockingto­n and Seth Lundy added 12 apiece and Jamari Wheeler chipped in 10 for the Nittany Lions (20), who led for all but 4:33. Curtis Cobb led Wagner with 19 points. Jones sank a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to put Penn State up 37-30 at halftime.

Robert Morris 71, La Salle 68: Robert Morris made up an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime and earned a victory against La Salle in Philadelph­ia. Robert Morris’ opportunis­tic defense made up for a 30.6% shooting performanc­e, as it forced 33 turnovers from La Salle (1-1). That 33 is the most turnovers for the Colonials (1-1) since Nov. 15, 2011, when they forced 36 in a 78-44 win over Kent State. Nneka Ezeigbo led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
