Central Valley rolls past Derry

Warriors advance to rematch vs. Aliquippa

Central Valley got revenge Friday with a WPIAL Class 3A, 42-7, semifinal blowout of Derry at North Allegheny High School.

It was the third time in four years the two teams faced off in the semifinals and Derry won the previous two encounters. This time, the top-seeded Warriors (11-1) dominated the No. 4-seeded Trojans (9-3) and scored all six of their touchdowns in the first half.

Central Valley was led by Stephon Hall and Ameer Dudley. Hall scored on runs of 2, 4, and 4 yards. Dudley scored on runs of 4 and 8 yards and connected with Jawon Hall on an 80-yard touchdown pass. Dudley completed 9 of 10 passes for 90 yards. Derry scored its only touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 41-yard run by Pryce Donovan.

The victory sets up next week’s rematch with Aliquippa (11-1), the No. 2 seed, in the title game. The two teams met in their TriCounty West Conference finale Oct. 25 and Central Valley posted a 45-6 victory.

More Class 3A

Aliquippa 21, South Park 7: The No. 2seeded Quips (11-1) advanced to the title game for the 12th consecutiv­e season with a win against the No. 6-seeded Eagles (5-6) at North Hills. Quarterbac­k Vaughn Morris threw two touchdown passes to help the Quips build a 21-0 halftime lead. He connected with Zuriah Fisher on a 10-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and with Chinua Solomon on an 11-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. The Quips also scored on a 33-yard run by Vernon Redd in the first quarter. South Park’s only touchdown came

Class 2A

Washington 28, Freedom 0: The topseeded Little Prexies (12-0) advanced to the WPIAL semifinals for the fifth time since 2012 with its shutout of the No. 8-seeded Bulldogs (8-4), in a quarterfin­al game played at Canon-McMillan. Zack Swartz rushed for 73 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 1, and 32 yards. Swartz improved his season totals to 985 yards on 114 carries. Swartz also completed 6 of 9 passes for 100 yards to increase his season total to 1,702 yards.

Riverside 41, McGuffey 27: The No. 14seeded Panthers (8-3) posted their second upset in as many weeks to earn a third semifinal berth in four years with their win against No. 6 McGuffey (9-3) in a quarterfin­al game played at Montour. The Panthers were led by Ben Hughes, who ran for four touchdowns and threw for another. Hughes scored on runs of 2, 8,4, and 5 yards. Hughes also completed 8 of 10 passes for 126 yards and connected with Nathan Sciarro on a 24-yard touchdown pass. The Panthers, who led 34-13 at halftime, also scored on a 70-yard intercepti­on return by Sciarro.

Brentwood 20, Neshannock 0: John Milcic ran for one touchdown and threw for another to lead the No. 5 seeded Spartans (10-2) to a shutout of the No. 4 seeded Lancers (9-3) in a quarterfin­al game played at Freedom. Milcic connected with Ian Thomas on a 28-yard touchdown pass, then ran 16 yards for a score. Milcic rushed for 93 yards on 19 carries and completed 8 of 9 passes for 97 yards. Aiden Wardzinski scored Brentwood’s first touchdown on a 24-yard run in the first quarter. Wardzinski rushed for 97 yards on 22 carries to increase his season total to 1,095. The Spartans advance to the semifinals for the first time 2014, and will face Washington. Avonworth 38, New Brighton 13: Jax Miller rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, as the No. 2-seeded Antelopes (12-0) advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2006 with a win against the No. 10-seeded Lions (8-4) in a quarterfin­al game played at Ambridge. Miller scored on runs of 54 and 55 yards. Antelopes quarterbac­k Park Penrod ran 34 yards for a score and connected with Theo Newhouse on a 23-yard scoring pass. Avonworth will face Riverside in the semifinals.

Class 1A

Clairton 39, Cornell 0: Brendon Parsons threw three touchdowns to lead the topseeded Bears (10-2) past the Raiders (9-2) in a semifinal played at Chartiers-Houston. Parsons completed 11 of 16 passes for 149 yards and connected with Kenlein Ogletree on touchdown passes of 32 and 21 yards, and with Jonte Sanders on a 21-yard scoring pass. Isaiah Berry led the Bears with 109 yards on 9 carries and scored on runs of 50 and 5 yards. The Bears advance to the title game to face No. 3 seed Sto-Rox (11-1).
