Upset Saturday, and it’s not even close

- By The Associated Press

College basketball’s topsyturvy season continued Saturday with six Top 25 teams losing to unranked opponents.

Two of them are in the top five. All of the losses came by double digits.

No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 Butler, No. 12 West Virginia, No. 20 Colorado and No. 21 Ohio State each fell on the road, perhaps a testament to the power of home-court advantage. No. 16 Wichita State lost at home.

One of the themes of the season has been the lack of dominant teams. Only seventh-ranked San Diego State (19-0), out of the Mountain West Conference, is unbeaten.

Auburn, most notably, is struggling. The Tigers lost to Florida by 22 points (69-47) Saturday. They began their week by being blown out Wednesday at unranked Alabama, 83-64.

Kentucky

Wildcats coach John Calipari was ejected in the second half at Arkansas after becoming upset at an illegal screen whistle. It might have been the best thing to happen to No. 10 Kentucky — the Wildcats went on a 17-2 run after Calipari left. A 44-44 tie with 8:19 remaining ended with the Wildcats winning, 73-66.

Louisville

Freshman David

Johnson had a season-high 19 points in the No. 11 Cardinals’ 79-73 win at No. 3 Duke. Malik Williams added two free throws with 16 seconds left and followed immediately with a transition dunk off a turnover. The Cardinals improved to 15-3, 6-1 ACC, and Duke fell to 15-3, 5-2.

Vanderbilt

The Commodores’ streak of 1,080 games with a made 3pointer ended resoundingly in a 66-45 loss at home to Tennessee. Vanderbilt went 0 for 25 from beyond the arc, repeatedly launching 3s as fans urged them on. The streak dated to the advent of the 3pointer before the 1986-87 season.
