Florida State still perfect at home

Patrick Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds, Trent Forrest also scored 14 and No. 8-ranked Florida State beat North Carolina, 65-59, Monday night at Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahasse­e, Fla.

RaiQuan Gray had 10 second-half points as the Seminoles (19-3, 9-3 ACC) moved within a win of their best start in league play. Florida State opened 10-2 in ACC play in 2011-12.

Florida State has won 19 consecutiv­e home games — 11 this season and the final eight in 2018-19.

Cole Anthony started in his second game back from knee surgery for North Carolina (10-12, 3-8). The freshman guard scored 16 points on 5-of-23 shooting and added seven rebounds. He shot 3 of 10 from 3-point range and 3 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Seton Hall

Starting point guard Quincy McKnight is being listed as day-to-day with an injury to his left knee. The 12th-ranked Pirates announced late Monday an MRI on the knee showed no damage. The senior was injured late in the second half Saturday of Seton Hall’s 74-62 loss to Xavier. He had to be helped to the locker room.

Robert Morris

The Colonials women (15-6, 10-0) limited visiting Bryant (5-15, 3-6) to 13 second-half points in a 69-39 Northeast Conference victory. Ire Ozzy-Momodu had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Robert Morris, which held Bryant to 3-of-25 shooting in the second half.

Baylor (19-1) has strengthen­ed its hold on No. 1 in the AP Top 25 men’s poll. The Bears received 49 of 65 first-place votes in the poll to stay comfortabl­y ahead of Gonzaga (23-1), Kansas (19-3) and San Diego State (23-0). That was up from 44 first-place votes from the previous week, with the Bears securing a third consecutiv­e week atop the rankings. Nos. 1-4 remained unchanged a week after the top seven teams held their rankings from the previous week, continuing a stretch of stability there in what has been an unpredicta­ble season with a recordtyin­g seven teams reaching No. 1.

In the women’s poll, South Carolina (21-1) retained its firm grip on the top spot in the women’s poll. The Gamecocks received 26 first-place votes from a 30-member media panel after routing Mississipp­i in record fashion and beating then-No. 22 Tennessee. Baylor (19-1) remained No. 2, receiving three first-place votes. Oregon (19-2), Connecticu­t (19-1) and Louisville (21-1) rounded out the first five teams in the poll. The Cardinals got the other firstplace vote. Oregon played Monday night at Connecticu­t. Ruthy Hebard had 22 points and 12 rebounds and Oregon handed Connecticu­t its first loss on campus in seven years, rolling to a 74-56 victory. It was Connecticu­t’s worst home loss since Dec. 5, 2005, when the Huskies lost to North Carolina by 23 points.
