Google and your family tree
“Google for Genealogy” will be the topic for the Monday meeting of North Hills Genealogists. Carole Ashbridge will discuss getting the most out of Google for genealogy and family history, including the use of alerts, maps, images and search strategies. The meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd., McCandless. Details at NorthHillsGenealogists.org.
Lions Club hosts dinner
The Pleasant Hills Lions Club will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on March 1, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Pleasant Hills Borough Building, 410 E. Bruceton Road. Adults tickets are $10; children under 12, $6. Tickets may be purchased from club members or at the door. Proceeds benefit the club’s charitable initiatives. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to a local food bank.
Learning about Alzheimer’s
“Introduction to Alzheimer’s and Dementia” will be the topic of a program Feb. 28 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the gallery space at the Monroeville Public Library, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd. Community educator Doreen Putnam will discuss the differences between the two, stages and risk factors for Alzheimer’s, current research and treatments. Free winter concert
The West Hills Symphonic Band will present its winter concert on March 1 at 3 p.m. at Montour High School, 223 Clever Road, Robinson. The program will include works by Williams, Rossini, Sousa and more. Featured artist will be Bill Lewis on oboe, and the symphonic band will be joined by the Montour High School Concert Band for the free concert’s final two selections. Information: www.whsb.org.
