Latrobe grad Butler continues to be bright spot for struggling Holy Cross
It has been a rough season for the Holy Cross men’s basketball team as the Crusaders entered the week with a 3-22 record. But Austin Butler has been one of the team’s bright spots. Butler, a junior and former standout player at Latrobe High School, recently scored the 1,000th point of his career in a game against Loyola, Md. For the season, Butler is averaging 11.8 points, is second on the team in rebounding at 6.4 and is averaging 2.4 assists.
WPIAL alums making an impact with Saint Vincent basketball
The Saint Vincent women’s basketball team entered the week in first place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference with an 11-1 record, and two former WPIAL players are having big impacts for the Bearcats. Jenna Lafko, a junior from Hampton, is second in the PAC in assists (3.8) and third in steals (3.0). She is averaging 13.8 points and 4.6 rebounds and shooting 51% from the field. Madison Kollar, a senior from Latrobe, is averaging 15.9 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Senior from Ambridge wrapping up outstanding career at La Roche
No basketball player at La Roche University has won as many games as Darius Lawrence. A senior guard from Ambridge High School, Lawrence recently set a school record when he was part of the 79th win in his career. Lawrence is averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The team entered this week 15-6 overall and 15-1 in the AMCCC. Coach Hermie Carmichael, a Seneca Valley graduate, also won his 100th career game recently.
