No. 17 South Dakota returns to the dance

Hannah Sjerven scored nine of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and 17thranked South Dakota (23-10) earned a return trip to the NCAA tournament with a 6358 win against secondseed­ed South Dakota State (30-2) in the Summit League championsh­ip game in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Coyotes trailed, 47-45, when South Dakota State scored the final seven points of the third quarter, but they held the Jackrabbit­s to one field goal in the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter to grab their third NCAA berth.

More women

Horizon: Holly Hoopingarn­er scored 16 points on 4-of5 shooting from 3-point range and IUPUI (23-8) earned its first NCAA tournament berth with a 51-37 win against Green Bay (19-13) in the league tournament final in Indianapol­is. Green Bay did not score a point in the fourth quarter.

West Coast: Haylee Andrews scored 18 points, including her second consecutiv­e game-winner in the final minute, and Portland (21-11) captured the West Coast automatic bid for the first time in two decades with a 64-63 overtime win against San Diego (20-11) in Las Vegas.

Men

West Coast: Joel Ayayi scored 17 points and bench players Drew Timme had 17 and Admon Gilder added 15 as No. 2 Gonzaga (31-2) finally pulled away from Saint Mary’s (26-8) for an 84-66 win for the tournament crown in Las Vegas.

Colonial Athletic: Desure Buie scored a game-high 20 points with five assists, and Eli Pemberton added 19 as Hofstra (26-8) pulled away for a 70-61 win against Northeaste­rn (17-16) to win the tournament crown in Washington.

Summit League: Vinnie Shahid scored 25 points and Tyson Ward added 23 as North Dakota State (25-8) ran away with a 89-53 title win against North Dakota (15-18) in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Horizon: Tyler Sharpe scored 16 points and Jalen Tate added 14 on, helping Northern Kentucky (23-9) beat UIC (18-17), 71-62, to lock up its second consecutiv­e league title in Indianapol­is.
