A different way?

-

The premise of the May 3 column by Keith Burris (“Trump Hate Won’t Cut it”) misses the point in so many ways.

First and foremost, the president should stop his own hateful, divisive and uninformed comments.

The column points out his willingness to go a different way and question experts and the deep state. Does going a different way mean giving huge tax cuts to corporations who then used that money to buy back shares or increase their dividends, instead of investing in capital spending to produce better-paying jobs?

Further, the low unemployment numbers that he likes to boast about belie the whole story. Manufacturing jobs have been lost and service jobs created during this administration. This means that many Americans work more than one low-paying service job, trying to make ends meet.

Does going a different way mean disregarding experts on the pandemic we are facing and laying the responsibility for managing this health crisis on the nation’s governors?

Does going a different way mean putting forth unproven conspiracy theories about a deep state?

Does going a different way mean leaving millions of people without decent medical insurance and trying to destroy any vestiges of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act?

Does going a different way mean suggesting unproven and dangerous medical treatments on a whim and against the advice of medical experts?

Mr. Trump has done all of these things. It will be up to the American people to decide this November if they want that kind of different way. HELMUT JOHN
