2 dead, child critical after crash in Chateau
Two adults were killed and a child is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Chateau neighborhood.
All three were trapped in the vehicle, which caught fire at the scene on Beaver Avenue near Island Avenue.
A man was found dead on arrival, according to police officials. A woman died after she was extricated and transported to a hospital. The child was extricated and taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Neither victim has yet been identified.
A dog was also killed in the crash. Two police officers received scratches while extricating the victims.
Beaver Avenue between Island Avenue and Branchport Street was closed while the Crash Investigation Unit processed the scene.
Police said witness accounts suggest speed was a factor in the crash, which happened around 4:20 p.m.
In a separate fatal crash, James Theodore Green Jr., 37, whose address was not provided, died at 1:54 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle struck a pole on West Warrington Avenue in Beltzhoover, according to city police and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Pittsburgh EMS officials and police found Mr. Green unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead soon after he was extricated from the vehicle.
There were no other victims in the vehicle. The city is investigating the cause.
