24 new COVID-19 cases in Western Pa.

2 deaths reported in Beaver County

There were three new deaths related to COVID-19 reported Monday in Western Pennsylvan­ia, according to the state health department.

The state said there were two deaths in Beaver County and one in Erie. Those counties’ death totals are 77 and eight, respective­ly.

The state also said Allegheny County has two new deaths (for a total of 174), but the county health department said there was no change from the previous day, with the death toll holding at 173.

In Western Pennsylvan­ia, there were 24 new positive cases of the respirator­y disease reported. Nine cases were reported in Erie. Allegheny County reported seven new positive cases, bringing its total to 2,086.

Of Allegheny County’s new cases, 1,953 are confirmed and 133 are probable. Among the deaths, 161 are confirmed and 12 are probable.

The total number of hospitaliz­ations reported by Allegheny County throughout the pandemic is 357. Of them, 141 required intensive care and 70 needed a mechanical ventilator.

Pennsylvan­ia reported 28 new deaths. In total, the state has reported 6,243 deaths. The state also reported 323 new positive cases, giving it a total of 79,121.

On Monday, Philadelph­ia, which has the highest singlecoun­ty totals in the state, exceeded the 20,000 mark in its number of cases with 20,007. It also has reported 1,509 deaths.

State Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine on Monday announced a partnershi­p with General Healthcare Resources, based in Buffalo, N.Y., to assist with the COVID-19 response.

“We are so pleased to have this level of collaborat­ion and assistance from General Healthcare Resources,” Dr. Levine said. “COVID-19 is a particular­ly challengin­g situation for congregate settings, particular­ly our longterm care facilities. These teams are assisting us in our response in the hardest-hit areas as we work to protect the public health and safety of Pennsylvan­ians.”

General Healthcare Resources will be deploying onsite assessment teams to assist with infection control practices, staffing and PPE training needs. The team will also assist with specimen collection and urgent staffing needs. The department of health will be funding the 41 individual­s who will be deployed for one year.
