Support program to eliminate pollution

-

We have an opportunity in Pennsylvania to be environmentally responsible citizens by becoming part of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a bipartisan multistate program started in 2008 that works by setting a cap on pollution from power plants and reducing those caps each year. So, the air keeps getting cleaner and cleaner while also requiring power plant owners to pay for their pollution, thus prodding them to cut their emissions even faster.

States that are part of the program can then invest the money raised for renewable energy projects, energy efficiency and conservation, which cut climate pollution even further. RGGI is the nation’s most effective program for cutting climate pollution currently in effect.

Pennsylvania joining this regional initiative only makes sense: It will help us curb pollution that is harming our health, environment and climate while also helping us raise revenue to invest in the clean energy transition.

I want to thank my state legislators, Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills, and Rep. Summer Lee, D-Swissvale, for their support of RGGI. Working together, we can help create a cleaner future for all of the citizens of Pennsylvania!
