Township properties targeted for archery deer hunt
Company also talking with private owners
Suburban Whitetail Management has identified 10 properties owned by Ross that would be conducive to an archery deer hunt.
The company is also talking to some private property owners about hunting on their property, Ross Commissioner Dan DeMarco said Monday.
Commissioners hired Suburban Whitetail Management to conduct the hunt because of the large number of complaints from township residents about the deer.
“They said they saw quite a lot of deer in their travels this weekend,” Mr. DeMarco said. “Obviously, we’ve got a big population of deer, and that has to be thinned out.”
In other business, commissioners agreed to have one meeting in
September. The session, scheduled for Sept. 21, is expected to be virtual, but that can change as it gets closer to the date, said commission President Steve Korbel.
Commissioners also approved applying to the state Department of Transportation for a “radar sign” on Gass Road. The sign tells drivers their speed in relation to the posted speed limit and has been successful in reducing speeding on Rochester Road, said Commissioner Joe Laslavic. He added that they are also considering applying for one for Bellevue Road.
Mr. Korbel announced that township officials are working with The Block Northway to show North Hills School District’s canceled 2020 musical, “Catch Me If You Can,” as a drive-in movie at the shopping center. It would be a fundraiser for the district’s drama department.
“This is just a really great way for us to partner with the school district,” he said.
