Springsteen to release ‘ Letter to You’ on Oct. 23
Bruce Springsteen was doing more than playing DJ the past several months.
The rock legend announced Thursday he will release “Letter to You,” a new album with the E Street Band, on Oct. 23.
“Letter to You,” a 12- track album recorded in his home studio in New Jersey, features nine newly written songs along with new recordings of three previously unreleased compositions from the 1970s: “Janey Needs a Shooter,” “If I Was the Priest” and “Song for Orphans.”
The album — which features the E Street lineup of Roy Bittan, Nils Lofgren, Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, Garry Tallent, Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Charlie Giordano and Jake Clemons — was produced by Ron Aniello with Springsteen, mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig.
The follow- up to last year’s “Western Stars,” it’s the E Street Band’s first album since 2014’ s “High Hopes,” and it marks Springsteen’s first time playing with the band since The River 2016 tour.
“I love the emotional nature of ‘ Letter to You,’” Springsteen said in a statement. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.”
During the pandemic, Springsteen has been hosting a series of DJ sessions called “From My Home to Yours” on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio.
