Police arrest man in connection with Spring Hill shooting

Police arrested a man Tuesday night in connection with a shooting in Spring Hill.

Christopher Shannon, 21, faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and reckless endangerment in the shooting of Clinton Mclaughlin in the 100 block of Rhine Place, according to court documents.

On Tuesday, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at around 9: 30 p. m. and found a man who had multiple gunshot wounds to his left leg, according to the criminal complaint. The victim was in the process of being taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. Police say they rendered aid until medics transported the victim to Allegheny General Hospital in stable condition.

Zone 1 officers also had a “perimeter set up around 121 Rhine Place to prevent anyone from leaving the building,” according to the complaint. The Real Time Crime Center notified officers that the suspect was a thinner Black male wearing pants and no shirt.

The complaint says officers began a door- to- door search where a resident notified police whom they believed was the shooter and that he was staying with his mother on the third floor. When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Mr. Shannon in a bedroom wearing only dark pants. Police say his appearance fit the description of the shooter provided by RTCC, according to the complaint. Mr. Shannon was detained without incident, according to the complaint. When Mr. Shannon’s mother provided consent to search her place for guns, police say they found a Smith & Wesson .40- caliber firearm that “looked to be recently fired” and was determined to be stolen.

Police also say they saw Mr. Shannon pull out a gun and shoot the man on city surveillance cameras, according to the complaint.

Court documents also show Mr. Shannon is currently being held in Allegheny County Jail with bail set at $ 100,000. The court documents did not show any records of legal representation for Mr. Shannon.
