Steelers welcome five to Hall of Honor

-

The Steelers welcomed five new members to their Hall of Honor on Friday evening.

Dwight White, Mike Wagner, James Farrior, Greg Lloyd and Troy Polamalu are the fourth class to be honored, bringing the total number of honorees to 41.

Steelers president Art Rooney II said plans to honor the five new members are not finalized due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, but his hope is to have a ceremony before fans either this year or next year.

White and Wagner won four Super Bowls with the Steelers in the 1970s. White, a defensive lineman, played for the Steelers from 1971- 80 and went to the Pro Bowl in 1972 and 1973. He was named secondteam All- Pro in 1975. White passed away in 2008.

Wagner, like White a member of the 1971 Steelers draft class, was named firstteam All- Pro at safety in 1973 and secondteam All- Pro in 1976. He had 36 career interceptions and had one against the Vikings and Cowboys in Super Bowls IX and X.

Farrior and Polamlau won two Super Bowls with the Steelers after the 2005 and 2008 seasons and played in Super Bowl XLV.

Polamalu, also a safety, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year. He was named first- team AllPro four times and made the Pro Bowl eight times. He was the NFL defensive player of the year in 2010 and finished his career with 32 interceptions. Polamalu’s interception return for a touchdown in the AFC championship sent the Steelers to the Super Bowl after the 2008 season.

Farrior, an inside linebacker, played for the Steelers from 2002- 11. He was a first- team All- Pro in 2004 and second- team All- Pro in 2008. He only missed six games during his 10 seasons with the Steelers.

Lloyd played for the Steelers from 198897 and made first- team All- Pro from 199395. He played for the 1995 team in Super Bowl XXX but lost to Dallas.

Saints

Wide receiver Michael Thomas won’t play Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers after he was ruled out for the second consecutive week with his high ankle sprain. Thomas has not practiced since he suffered the ankle injury in the final minutes of New Orleans’ Week 1 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

49ers

Nick Mullens will start at quarterback for San Francisco in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo but won’t have All- Pro tight end George Kittle as an option. Coach Kyle Shanahan said that Kittle will miss a second game after spraining his knee in the season opener.

Packers

Coach Matt LaFleur said it’s “probably doubtful” that Davante Adams will play Sunday night at New Orleans due to a hamstring injury. Adams hasn’t practiced this week since leaving the Packers’ 42- 21 victory against the Detroit Lions in the second half.

Raiders

Las Vegas will be without speedy rookie receiver Henry Ruggs III this week because of injuries to his knee and hamstring. Ruggs was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, along with starting right tackle Trent Brown and linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski.

Chargers

Justin Herbert will get his second NFL start against Carolina with Tyrod Taylor out indefinitely due to chest and rib injuries. Despite limited snaps with the first team, Herbert completed 22 of 33 passes for 311 yards, factored in both touchdowns last week in the 23- 20 overtime loss.

Ravens

Baltimore will allow 250 immediate family members at M& T Bank Stadium for a game Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. In advancing to the next step of Maryland’s reopening plan earlier this month, Gov. Larry Hogan allowed up to 250 people to attend events at outdoor venues. The Ravens in August announced that they would not be allowing fans at M& T Bank Stadium for “at least the initial part” of the season.

Bills

Buffalo will be without rookie running back Zack Moss for a game Sunday against the Los Angles Rams. Moss is out with a toe injury. A third- round pick out of Utah, Moss has split time in the backfield with Devin Singletary to open the season.
