• Pa. reports over 1,500 new cases, 25 deaths.
Pennsylvania reported another day of more than 1,000 new cases of COVID- 19 — 1,566 new cases for Friday and 25 additional deaths.
The latest cases bring the statewide total to 179,086 cases of the virus and 8,457 related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in March.
Western Pennsylvania accounted for 449 of the state’s cases, with Allegheny County having the highest increase for Friday with 149 new cases, followed by Westmoreland County with 109 new infections.
Of the new cases in Allegheny County, 107 are confirmed from 1,385 tests, 42 are probable of which 28 come from positive antigen tests. The tests were taken between Oct. 7 and Oct. 15. Those testing positive range in age from 2 to 94, with a median age of 39.
The county has had a total of 13,821 people test positive for the virus since March.
Of the 25 new deaths statewide, nine of them occurred in Western Pennsylvania. Allegheny County reported six new deaths, and Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties each reported one new death.
The latest deaths reported Friday in Allegheny County breaks a stretch of five straight days with no deaths and brings the county death toll to 403. The deaths were among two people in their 70s, one in their 80s and three in their 90s. Two of the deaths are associated with longterm care facilities. The deaths occurred between Oct. 7 and Oct. 13.
