Nazareth Prep receives grant for new building
Nazareth Prep announced in January that it will use a $1 million grant from the state to build a new science and activities building on its Emsworth campus.
The independent Catholic high school said it would use the building to expand educational partnerships, develop new relationships with community groups, and provide new educational opportunities.
“Every day I am inspired by our students,” Sister Linda Yankoski, president and CEO of Holy Family Institute, the parent organization of the school, said in a statement. “Their passion for learning and willingness to take on new challenges gives me great hope for the future of our community. Our goal is to support their enthusiasm by giving them the facilities and opportunities they need to continue to learn and grow.”
The Pennsylvania Office of the Budget awarded the school the grant through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which funds projects with cultural, civic, historical, regional or multi-jurisdictional impact.
Nazareth Prep said it intends for the new building to benefit its own students as well as other teenagers in the Pittsburgh area.
The building will house expanded summer camp programming and athletic and academic enrichment, according to the school.
Nazareth Prep’s grant application received support and advocacy from Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, state Reps. Anita Kulik, Jake Wheatley and Valerie Gaydos, and state Sens. Jay Costa and Lindsey Williams.
The school did not provide a timetable for the construction of the new building.
