South Side mid-week farm, craft market set for July start
Can’t wait to get your hands on more fresh produce from local farmers this summer?
You’re in luck: SouthSide Works is partnering with nonprofit Buy Fresh Buy Local of Western PA to bring a mid-week farmers and artisan market to its Town Square on the South Side Flats. Beginning July 21, the market will run from 3 to 7 p.m. every other Wednesday and continue through October.
Vendors will offer locally grown fruits and vegetables, dairy products, eggs and a variety of grains and meat. In addition, artisans with I Made It! Market will sell handcrafted items such as jewelry, ceramics, housewares, kids items, bath and body goods. To keep it fun and interesting, items will change monthly, according to founder Carrie Nardini.
“Our artists have been suffering due to the restrictions with COVID, so this is a great opportunity for them to get back in a place where we have been many times before and enjoyed a great response from shoppers,” she says.
She added there’s a “great
overlap” between people who appreciate local artists and those who love local farmers and food sellers. There also will be live music during market times.
“It’s going to be the perfect mid-week break for Pittsburghers where they can stock up on fresh groceries for the weekend, grab a bite to eat from our vendors or even unwind with free entertainment,” marketing coordinator Carla Clipper said in a Buy Fresh press release.
In keeping with COVID-19 restrictions, the market will require safely distanced shopping in accordance with City of Pittsburgh guidelines.
The market is looking for vendors. Food producers or farmers who wants to participate should email cclipper@ american- healthcare.net for details. Artisans can go to www.imadeitmarket.com. Gretchen McKay: gmckay@post-gazette.com, 412-263-1419 or on Twitter/IG :@gtmckay.
